Grewal was born on October 13, 1968, in Raian (In the neighborhood house, birth place of Sri. Satguru Ram Singh Kuka which was the second Guru of the Namdhari sect. He is credited as being the first British Indian to use non-cooperation and boycott of British goods and services) Ludhiana, Punjab, India. He is the son of Sardar Kesar Singh Grewal, a respected Namberdar, and Sardarni Malkeet Kaur Grewal. He completed his matriculation from Malwa Khalsa High School and obtained his graduation degree from Arya College, Punjab University, Chandigarh. Grewal pursued his passion for law and earned a law degree from D.A.V College, Kanpur, affiliated with Kanpur University.

Sukhminderpal Singh Grewal's professional experience encompasses various domains. He previously served in the Punjab Mandikaran Board and currently holds the esteemed position of Namberdar (Village Headman) for Village Bhukhari Kalan, Ludhiana. As a lawyer, he dedicates his time to providing legal aid to the underprivileged from his chamber at District Courts, Ludhiana.
